Get ready for the exciting follow up to Atlantis Rising, dubbed An enchanting debut from a promising new author of paranormal YA by Kirkus Reviews. After all they'd cost me, I thought I was done with the Truss clan. I was wrong. Nikki Dawning, my mortal enemy, has been kidnapped, and I've been asked to spy on the Truss to find her. The pull between Ian and I has never been stronger, but he can't help me this time. I have to rely on Theron, a bad-tempered cousin I didn't know I had. To make matters worse, the people I trust have been keeping secrets. I'm starting to feel like a weapon in a war I don't understand. How far am I willing to go to protect the descendants of Atlantis and the common good when I'm not sure what the common good is anymore? Only one thing is certain. If I'm the next Laurel clan chief, I can't let myself be manipulated...by anyone. The Atlantis Rising series is best enjoyed in order. Atlantis Rising definitely left me wanting to know what would happen next, and I felt a connection with Alison weeks after I reached the end. When the opportunity to read and review the sequel came along, I jumped on it, and I'm glad for the chance to continue experiencing this story.
Alison grew so much in this book, even more than she did in the first. Not only has she embraced being outside her protective bubble, she's learned more about who she is, what she wants, and where her life is going, which was marvelous to see. I missed Brandy quite a bit, wondering several times throughout the story what she would say or do, much like I suspect Alison and Ian did. The new characters introduced were fantastic, and I love the connections made between them all. I feel like Spencer and Katherine could be expanded on a bit more, but I'm holding out hope for the third book to see more of their personalities, aside from somewhat controlling leaders.
I actually found myself wondering why Alison likes Ian so much, and what she sees in him, which was disturbing. I'm not quite sure they work together, but again, am curious to see what happens between them in the next book. I have a feeling all hell is going to break loose for the descendants of Atlantis, so there may not even be time for them to worry about personal lives. We shall see.
All in all, I am so glad to have stumbled upon this series, and am loving where the story is headed. Mrs. Craw is a wonderful storyteller, and I enjoy her writing style. I'd be more than happy to read anything she creates, but am mostly anxious to see how she ends this story. I can't wait to devour the third book in the series, and my guess is, I'll be crossing my fingers for a fourth book.
I'd definitely recommend this series to fans of paranormal adventures. This book did have some graphic/gory points, that may not be suitable for younger audiences. It is a book you could read without reading the prequel first, but I would recommend starting the series from the beginning, as the character development will lack a few layers of substance otherwise.
Bravo, and keep 'em coming!
