Tess is working in the competitive field of game programming, living in a comfortable situation with one of her workmates, but wants a promotion. Adam, the roommate, suggests that she needs to be more social, show she can work with a team, so Tess puts herself out there to find some new friends. Those friends need her help in publicizing their failing bookstore, so Tess decides to develop a game for them and at the same time show her workmates her skills. It was a good read, full of contemporary references and with a well-matched couple in the leads. Tess is spunky and a lot of fun while Adam balances her and supports her. I gave a half-star for the reference to Attack on Titan because I was so shocked to see it and at the same time loved it. A cute, fandom-y roommates romance. Tessa has a plan to help her new friends promote their bookshop by winning a fan contest. But if she’s going to build a successful computer game before the contest deadline, she will need help from her roommate Adam and from their colleagues. I was initially taken aback by the mid 2010s fandom references -- old enough to feel dated, not old enough to feel vintage, I thought -- but then I settled into the story. More contemporary romance with fandom references, please. sin reseñas | añadir una reseña

As per the blurb, Tessa is determined to move up in the male dominated world of video game coding, and she has a side project that will not only help her possibly get noticed by the engineering team at work but also help out her new friends as well. When she enlists the aid of her platonic roommate Adam, both of them realize there’s more than meets the eye, and both of them feel an alluring attraction the more they hang out together.
The premise was promising, but overall, I didn’t readily connect with this story in general. Maybe it was because I was unfamiliar with the various fandoms that were present here or maybe it’s because this read younger than the ages of the MC’s making the actions and reactions incongruent to my expectations. The blatant lack of editing also didn’t help my enjoyment, throwing me out of the story multiple times. These are personal issues so don’t take my word for it as plenty others have much to say on why they loved this.
An overall easy read, with a bit of sexy, that will appeal to fandoms, cosplayers, and gamers. ( )
