This book is about the Berenstain Bears deciding to get a dog and realizing all the responsibility and hard work that comes with it. This book gives a realistic view of what it is like owning a pet, which many kids can probably relate to. The book can bring up good discussions about responsibility not only with pets, but with other things as well. The book would be good for kindergarteners are up. The illustrations look to be computer generated and are the classic Berenstain Bears! I would read this book in class because I like that I would be able to talk to the kids about responsibility. It took me back to my first dog and how overwhelming and difficult it was. The Berenstain's just always seem to make things so easy for kids to understand and help parents in getting important points across.

Like all Berenstain Bears Books, they are always a great addition to any young children's summer reading program especially one with parent interaction. ( )
