Nice read. I enjoyed this one a bit more than the last couple I've read by Hill, I think. But I do have a soft spot for pregnant women. I didn't care all that much for the narrator but she was still better than some. Just had some issues with her inflections and some of her character voice choices. The mothers both sounded snooty and Jordan often sounded a touch snotty. But the story was good, I thought. Not sure if I'd read it again. I guess I'll find out. ( )

I’m glad I decided to give this book another chance. It’s still not my favorite Gerri Hill’s romance, but I liked it better the second time around. ( )

This was a fun sort of 'going home' trope lesbian fiction novel, with a little bit of a big ole twist thrown in there too.

Jordan comes back to Texas to take care of her brother Matt's store. He died in an accident. It's there that she meets Annie, who works at the store (and has sorta been running it by default). She also happens to have slept with Matt on the night he died. And then there's the twist that comes soon after they meet. And, from there it's a pretty usual lesbian fiction romance, they get closer, though it's not a perfect journey.

I really liked the twist (as I implied above). It fits well into the narrative. I also liked the main as well as secondary characters. They, and the relationships they had were all definitely unique and I was rooting for or against them as prescribed in the novel.

It was a short read (which was partially because I couldn't put it down), and a fun and interesting one too. ( )
