I love this book, and the sweet story that it shares with the ideas of what cars and such can do. It is a great book for young children starting at birth until probably around kindergarten. I would use this book to share about different verbs and help the students learn about things that cars do. ( )

The text is a pretty pedestrian Oh, the Places You'll Go! knockoff, but the pictures are good, sometimes taking on a Where's Waldo dimension as they become very greatly detailed. ( )

I liked this book for a number of reasons. First, I love the writing used in this book. I like the writing because it’s very engaging and flows well together with rhyming. For example, some of my favorite rhymes were “If you yearn for the ocean or wish for a stream, roads bring you closer to reaching your dream,” “Which path should you choose? That’s easy to see. The one that will take you where you wish to be,” and “During your journey, you’ll ramble and roam. But sooner or later, you’ll think of your home.” Another reason why I liked this book is because of the illustrations. The illustrations enhance the story. The pictures are very large. For example, every single page is filled completely with pictures and the text is on top of the picture. Also, the pictures go along with the text. For example, when the text says, “Roads…zoom. Beneath city buildings that tower on high, twinkling like stars in the dark velvet sky,” the picture shows the bunny riding the bike on the busy roads in the city, the tall buildings, the dark sky filled with stars, it looks just like a city! The illustrations are very busy and have so much going on. For example, on one page there is a truck driving up a steep hill, many mountains with houses, clouds, trees, birds, twisting roads, smoke coming from the chimney, snow, animals drinking tea, animals climbing up a hill, the list goes on! There’s so much going on in the pictures, I can tell it that a lot of time and detail was put into these illustrations because they are so large and complex. Lastly, I love that this book pushes readers to think about their journeys. This book made me feel like I could go so many places and explore, but also made me feel like home is where my heart is. This book takes you through a journey of different roads, merging roads, reaching roads, bending roads, climbing roads, and returning roads to home. This book made me think about my journey after graduating high school, having to decide if I was going away for college, if I was ready to pick my major, etc. I think the overall message of this book is that you can go many places, but you’ll always miss home. Life is a long bumpy road, but you always have home to go back too. ( )
