As a Buddhist practitioner, I come back to this book, which I have owned for the last 25 years, time and time again for explanations of terms which, although I have heard before, I don't completely understand or forget. When I look up a term, I then end up looking up other terms to fully understand what is being said. Very thorough. Not only is there an explanation of the term, but also, where the term is significant, explanations of how the various schools of Buddhism view the term. This book is an essential reference for any practitioner

I haven't read this whole book---It's an encyclopedia!....but, i have refered to it several times. It is a fairly comprehensive encyclopedia of hindu, buddhist and taoist terms. Really almost necessary to have on hand when you are confronted with the bewildering and strangly named numbers of gods and buddas etc, that are found in the eastern religions. This is well cross referenced, is a good place to begin an intermediate study of many topics in its own right. A fairly standard reference on eastern religions. For any quasi-academic to academic study on eastern religions, you should have it. ( )
