Plumber Tom Paretski has a knack for psychically finding things, and whole he doesn't like to make a show of it, he knows it can be useful. And his private investigator boyfriend, Phil Morrison, is keen for Tom to put his skill to use. So he finds himself investigating a body found in the basement of a pub, and he's also forced to associate with some characters that he'd much prefer to avoid. But a murder mystery isn't the only thing that Tom needs to solve--it turns out Phil might have a secret of his own that he's trying to hide.

This series has not disappointed me from the beginning, and I enjoy the bits of humor that we get from Tom going all the way back to the beginning. Despite some serious subject matter with the relationship issues and the crime solving and whatnot, the books manage to stay light and entertaining, with enough twists to leave you wondering as a reader. I love Tom and Phil as a couple but I often find that I want to spend a lot of my time smacking some sense into Tom, and this book was no exception. In fact, I might have wanted to slap him more in this one than in both of the other books put together. And add in some of his friends and family for the slapfest too.
I thought the investigation was weaker this time around and I couldn't quite put my finger on how I was supposed to feel about Carey and what he had or hadn't done, before or during the story. I was disappointed that Phil and Tom didn't work together as much in this one and I guessed the 'secret' Phil was hiding in the cupboard from the off (I'm hoping this means were getting another book).
Does that mean I'm taking off stars? No. Who am I kidding? I loved it. My only real complaint... I want to be able to get these books in audio and as far as I can tell Samhain don't do them. ( )

I love these characters - Tom and Phil are so good together. this time though, Tom had moments where I wanted to slap him upside his head. ( )

Did I tell you how much I love Tom? Did I? Because I do. A LOT! He's irreverent and smart, and so charming...

I had a hard time with Phil, here. Even harder than in the first book. But he managed to worm into my heart, and I think I get his reasons.

I enjoyed seeing Tom and Phil's relationship overcoming misunderstandings and grown up. With quite a fewer words that I'd prefer, but, oh, well! British men! And ditto regarding Tom and his parents and sister. It's a hard time for all of them, and you can see they are all trying. Not that I liked Tom's mom attitude at Greg's Sunday's lunch, mind you.

As always, Gary was probably the most endearing of all of them. His affection for Tom it's bright as the sun, and he's the kind of friend we always want with us. And having him finding happiness with Darren is wonderful.

Now, with that ending, what choice I have, but go and read the next book? :P

To all the lovely people who helped me with this book: Susan Sorrentino, SC Wynne, Pender Mackie, Lou Harper, Blaine Arden, Josephine Myles and, as ever, the stalwart members of Verulam Writers' Circle and my editor, Linda Ingmanson. I couldn't have done it without you.

And to all the readers who've travelled on this journey with Tom and Phil that started with Pressure Head and Relief Valve--thank you!
