Fiction. Romance. HTML:Fans of Monica Murphy and Tammara Webber will savor this novel about coming of age in the heat of the moment from Julie Cross, the internationally bestselling author of the Tempest trilogy.

I used to be ??Isabel Jenkins, child prodigy.? As lame as that sounds, at least it was an identity. But now I??m not sure what I am. I just failed the most important exam of my life??the emotional readiness test required to get into a medical residency program??and it turns out my parents can??t stand each other. Now I??m trying to figure out how to pick up the pieces of my life, and that means re-enrolling as a college freshman, but this time I??m shutting the books and majoring in being eighteen.

But so far, my roommate hates me and I??m not into the party scene. The only good thing about school has been getting to know my insanely hot RA. Marshall Collins makes me wonder about everything I missed while I was growing up too fast. Pretty soon we??re hanging out constantly, but for the first time, I find myself wanting more than a no-strings-attached physical relationship. And the lesson I really need is one Marsh definitely can??t teach me: love. Because I??m going to be alone forever if I don??t learn fast.

Funny and touching. I related to the awkwardness of main character Izzy and her inability to say the right thing or engage her filters. She didn't have any filters, which is really common for smart kids who don't develop social skills because they don't relate to their peers.
Izzy is more comfortable around adults than people her age, she focuses really well on certain things to the exclusion of almost everything else, and she's uncomfortable with emotions.

Someone else reviewed this book and said that the main character reminded them of Sheldon Cooper, except that Sheldon is "lovable." Well, I think Sheldon is an asshole because he knows how to be decent to other people but chooses not to, and Izzy is great because she wants to be a kind person but doesn't yet know how. ( )

Isabel wants to be a doctor. She's 18 and a prodigy and waiting to find out where she is going to get her residency. When she finds out that she doesn't get past her psych eval, she's devastated. Enter her plan to attempt to be normal for once in her life. So she goes to school, changes her name and tells no one who she is. Of course she has trouble fitting in and has no clue what she's doing. While at school she meets Marshall. And he changes her life forever. I loved Marshall and loved reading how he helped Isabel. I also really enjoyed watching Isabel learn how to be a normal teenager (or as normal as she can be). I also really enjoyed Marshall's family and kind of wanted them to adopt me. I hope to see more in the future from Julie Cross. ( )

Oops, spoilers ahead!

A sweet romance between an incredibly smart young woman who needs to grow up and a nice young man who has Crohn's disease.
