Although when compared with the author’s earlier attempts to write about Mormons and Mormonism, this book shows some improvements, it is still replete with problems. No serious student of Mormonism (LDS or non-LDS) is likely to take such a publication seriously. The meaning and contours of Mormonism, the nuances and subtleties, are all missing. White’s proclamations about Mormonism are filled with misleading or blatantly false ideas that have calcified into orthodoxies.
A straightforward, accurate answer to the question of why Mormons cannot be recognized as mainstream Christians. Discerns the differences between Mormonism and evangelical Christianity. No se han encontrado descripciones de biblioteca. |

James White is very careful to not fall into that trap. He carefully and systematically establishes that a certain doctrine is historically and currently held by the church, and then shows how it is wrong. Because the book is so careful, he only hits about three Mormon doctrines, but after reading this, I am rather convinced that this is exactly how we should approach things with the Mormons. Would it not be better to tread a bit more slowly and carefully than to just rush out and criticize them for polygamy again?
Maybe we should be dedicating our apologetical books at a handful of doctrines at a time, making sure we get them right, rather than spending only five pages here or ten there on ideas.
White quite convincingly points out the errors of these three core doctrines, and by doing so shows the error in Mormonism and calls our Mormon friends and neighbors to faith in the true Christ, the only one that can save. ( )
