This novel had interesting characters, but the writing needs a lot of editing. Unfortunately, I often found myself distracted by the errors and poor sentence structures instead of enjoying the book. I was given this book complimentary by the author in return for my honest review. Everything stated in this review is of my own opinion and I was not compensated monetarily for providing this review. As I suspected this series is getting better. It has not become a romance, thank God, and the author is building the characters. I think he is getting a feel for the main character, who if she continues this way, getting more powerful, could well be the new Harry Dresden I look forward to reading the next in the series to see what happens I like stories with a little magic in them, I had no idea this was second in a series when I got it. It was easy to read without the knowledge from the first and managed to get through the book quickly. It's fast paced, twist changing and does everything to keep the reader engaged and wanting more. I will be getting the other books in the series. Nice to see a different magic theme in these books too. Josephine, Helena, and Alice are in their mid-seventies to mid-eighties wizards who have been friends since childhood. They are all retired now and live in retirement condos. Josephine is the highest ranked wizard, a class six, which means that she ages much slower than everyone else and still looks to be in her early to mid thirties. This is creating problems from the other residents in the condo, Dale in particular, because he thinks that she is stealing from their retirement even though she has contributed longer than he has since she is older but doesn’t look it. She gets approached by two different secret societies that want her because of her powers to join, one good but isolated and the other as evil as they come. Lorcan, the rep from the evil side, decides the best way to get her to join his side is by cursing her friends and or family until she joins. She is forced into a corner and must figure out how to save herself and everyone she cares about or lose them all. I liked the jinxes that Josephine and Dale were throwing back and forth at each other and really wanted more than what was in there. I felt like that feud could have been played out a bit more in the beginning. I also enjoyed the morning routine amongst the friends of rummy and coffee. The author’s writing was engaging and kept you interested and turning the page to find out more. I would recommend this novel. sin reseñas | añadir una reseña

"Corruption" is book two of the "Grumpy Old Wizards" series. In this novel we revisit Josephine and her friends Alice and Helen. Now that Josephine has been tapping into the vortex, Alice and Helen have convinced her to apply for a position with the police force to network and keep tabs on the vortex. Since we last saw her, she's been approached by secret organizations run by and for level six wizards. But when she declines the invitation from one of them, they stop at nothing to force her to submit. Will Josephine be able to keep her grandson and her best friends safe? Who is this hot guy Mark? Could it be that Josephine has finally found her soul mate?
Once again, this was a fun read for me. I love the way each character has their own personality, you could literally picture them gathered around the table in a heated discussion. It was amazing what those three friends went through and still stuck together. I enjoyed the twists and turns this story had and I can't wait to read book three. ( )
