Full of anecdotes, based on mental coach Gary Mack’s experience.

It is an interesting read. It is not science based. There are no footnotes, no reference, no bibliography, not even numbered chapters. Poems are even included without attribution.

The following chapters have summary paragraphs in them:
Getting Over Yourself (p. 40)
Paradoxes of Performances (p. 180)
Inter Excellence (p. 191)
The Mirror Test (p. 212)

This is a good book for someone wanting to get a feel for the importance of the mental side of performance, and to get some ideas of what has worked with other people. ( )

The advice is reasonable, but none of it is ground-breaking. The useful content is fairly thin and is padded out with lots of unnecessary "inspiring" examples and name-dropping about all the athletes the author has worked with.

As a non-American, I found it particularly difficult that a lot of the examples are given by invoking people and concepts from baseball, basketball and American football, making it all but incomprehensible in places. ( )
