This wasn't quite what I expected -- the ordinary Americans featured are the author's clients (and not random, regular people). I thought this had a bit too much marketing, in favour of getting financial planners and investing in mutual funds (it's unsurprising the author's clients would think that's the way to go). The author starts off with a bang, with an unequivocal view of mortgages -- to not pay any more of them down than required. This is, of course, contingent on taking any extra money that would have gone toward the mortgage and investing it instead (a contingency that no every one will follow through on). It's also heavily based on the American market, including the income tax credit for the interest paid on mortgage debt.

One thing is I'm glad I read until the end because the author's observations about his clientele and what he learned from the book was the best part. ( )
