Fiction. Literature. Romance. I don't care what my cousin says; I am not the queen of impossible relationships. I mean, just because my last boyfriend tried to kill me and left a bit of a scar on my neck, then forced me to move across the country and legally change my name to Reese Randall to escape him, does not mean—Oh, who am I kidding? For a freshman in college, I have to have the worst dating track record ever. It's no wonder love is the last thing on my mind when Mason Lowe enters my life. But the chemistry between us is like bam! Our connection defies logic. And he's just so freaking hot. Being around him makes me feel more alive than I've ever felt before. I even like bickering with him. This was well written but I absolutely don't enjoy when a main character is with another after meeting/getting to know the heroine. I don't care what the reason is....just not my cuppa! ( )

É o primeiro livro da série Forbidden Men.

I wasn't sure what to expect when I started reading this book. In theory, it had everything I like in a New Adult read: a past filled with drama; an interesting spin on the relationship--and, added bonus, humour. But in the end, I think that is what made this book a disappointment.

Part of the issue is Reese--she just wasn't what I expected and because the story is only told from her perspective, it dampens the reading experience. If I had to use three words to describe her I would use: immature, hypocritical and odd.

Knowing what I knew about her past, I expected her to be timid and a little damaged from her past based on the stereotype of the New Adult genre. However, Reese is a little odd in that she seems to have no long-term problems from her situation. And while I can appreciate the fact that she doesn't let her past get her down, it rubbed me the wrong way because, to me, it felt like they were making the situation seem less serious than it actually is. Not everyone will feel that way to be sure but it set a tone for me that I couldn't shake off as I read the book.

I also felt like I was reading a book with characters set in high school. My word, if I have to listen to Reese refer to Mason as "Hotness" one more time I think I might scream. I assume that most of Reese's thoughts were an attempt at humour but they just seemed petty to me. The lack of maturity of the characters again knocked this book down a notch for me. This also explains why I found Reese to be slightly hypocritical because she was heavily influenced by Eva yet would get angry when people were influenced by others. I just felt her character was a little all over the place at times and would have appreciated some consistency.

As for the plot, it felt a little prolonged. The book could have easily been 50 or so pages shorter and not have suffered. I liked watching Reese and Mason interact and I liked that not everything was physical between them and they got to know each other. I personally feel like Mason was too good for Reese but I did warm up to Reese slightly by the end.

Overall: Some people might enjoy the "quirky" character that is Reese but others might find their patience tested by her and find this book a disappointment like me.

This was a poignant love story between two people who bring such an emotional response from you as a reader for what looks like a tragic story.

The hero of this book was the son of mother that was trying to work two jobs to make sure her young daughter who had MS would get the help she needed. In doing this she neglected the little things like paying the rent and bills. Mason Lowe was an innocent 18 year old when the landlady proposed to him a deal. She would wipe his mother’s debt clean if she became her boy toy. Your heart broke for Mason as he saw no other way out of the desperate situation his family was in. From that point Mason became a gigolo to pay the bills and for his sisters care.

Think his story is tragic – lets get to the heroine, Reese Randall . She starts dating a guy when she is a freshman in high school. Through the next four years the abuse ramps up him almost killing her. For her safety her parents send her to live with her Aunt and Uncle and legally change her name. She is in college now along with her cousin and trying to accept all the changes when she sees the most beautiful man she has ever seen. But her cousin waste no time in informing her of the rumors surrounding him of what he is.

From here these two lost souls embark on a road to a friendship that stands up to any and all criticism from their peers and his clients. Even though the book is in Reese’s POV except for the prologue you FEEL Mason’s pain and suffering every time he is on the page. The author’s writing was so impactful where Reese, Mason and his sister was concerned it was like you were personally feeling every emotion they were.

Its always a joy to find treasures like this book to read. If your looking for a moving and touching love story I highly recommend this book.

Definitely one of my favourite YA Contemporary Romance.

I was little apprehensive going into this book but not am I glad I did.

Reese is an amazing heroine. She was kind, sweet, strong and down right hilarious and absolutely loved her.

Mason. Mason. Mason. *sigh*
He was just an amazing character al around. Despite his *ahem* peculiar *ahem* job I still found him to be an amazing character. His love for Sarah and Reese just melted my heart. *sigh*

I have to say the writing wasn't fantastic and to be honest I was kind of disappointed at the beginning. However, the more I got into the book the less apparent it became.

All in all it was a great book. You did good Linda and I can't wait to read the rest of your books. ( )
