For small-town rebel Dani Webber magic and monsters are no more real than the Easter Bunny ... until the day she accidentally stops time. Dani quickly discovers that not only do supernaturals exist, but she herself is one of them. This is great news for her life-long best friend Russ, who can finally come clean about his own supernatural status and his undying love for her. Before the two can start to enjoy the long overdue relationship, Dani is taken by a powerful council of supernaturals who believe she is the Chosen One destined to save them from extinction. As if being kidnapped and expected to save the world isn't bad enough, an ancient prophecy warns of the Chosen One's dark nature: "Only the truest love will keep her an agent for good." The council believes they know who this "true love" is and, unfortunately, that person isn't Russ. The mysterious, powerful and devastatingly handsome Seer is the last person Dani wants in her life, but when she starts having visions of a horrific future, she has no one else to turn to for help. Soon Dani finds herself torn between two very different boys with two very different opinions of whom she can trust. With the visions getting worse and time running out, Dani is forced to put aside her feelings and work with both the Seer and Russ before an ancient evil is unleashed upon the earth.… (más)

I love Kelly Oram. Seriel Hottie, Cinder and Ella all of them.
That being said I'm not normally a contemporary person, I like UF and paranormal, so this should have been right up my alley..... Yeah the problem was the mc seemed to have a brain transplant and went from speaks her mind, tough girl to wimpy hold my hand and I'm okay with being told who to marry.

Now this could all be part of some bigger plot point so since I love Kelly Oram I'm sure I'll eventually pick this back up and try again.

So so sad that I ended up well and truly disliking the book. I love you Kelly Oram, but this one just hit all the wrong spots! ( )

I've read the book weeks before... And I am not sure I remember it all. I forgot my notes in the office so I'll just typed whatever I remember about it.

Soooo... I very much liked the concept of this new novel of Kelly Oram. It's not like Being Jamie Baker, which I'm not sure if it's good or bad, maybe a little bit of both. Anyway, from the start... I don't like Russ. I really, really, really don't like him. He's like a bastard. Jackass or whatever you want to call him. Yeah, sure the banter between him and Dani made me laugh a bit but in all honesty, he's not at all likable. Well that is my opinion.

I get that Oram wanted to have love triangle and that Dani is confused of her feelings with one another. Uh... I mean the relationship between the three of them, I don't like it that much. I like Gabriel, but he's a bit timid for my taste. Or maybe it was just because I'm used to seeing Oram's male characters got spunk and cocky but in a good way. Russ is cocky but I hate how he is. I don't like him even one bit.

I also get that she might be trying something new to her story but I don't think the male character really do me in. If you know what I mean. But the story is really good. I love the idea of Chameleon. And yes, I actually didn't associate the animal, Chameleon to the book. lol. And I love the twists! Wow. It's good. :)

Dani is a very very likable female character. I love how she grows. How she finally choose where she'll be. Even though she's at first annoying, she kinda grow on you.

I so love the premise though. I love how Oram throw us with different kinds of supernatural. There's werewolf, witch, vampire, wizards, fey, seer, mythology, etc. It's so brilliantly created! ( )

Dani Webber has just turned 16 years old. It's the middle of the night when her best and really only friend Russ sneaks in to wake her up, wish her happy birthday, and give her a surprise that only Russ could come up with. He not only gives her a surprise, he confesses to her what he truly is, and it is not human. Dani, of course, doesn't believe him and in fact get really ticked off at him. She doesn't understand why, but lately she has been thinking of Russ as way more than just a friend. In fact, it takes all her strength to keep her hands off of him and be separated from him. Then when something happens to her she can't explain, she soon finds out that Russ and his dad Alex aren't the only supernatural ones in their small town, that in fact, she is one herself. Their quiet town soon becomes bombarded with more than one unwelcome supernatural visitor who want Dani, because she is "The Chosen One," and against her will and her wishes, Dani finds herself whisked off the consulate headquarters in New York and staring into the eyes of another almost painfully beautiful boy who she soon finds out is destined to be a big part of her life. Caught up in an ancient prophecy, visions of the future, her future, and the impending supernatural battle to come, Dani is unsure exactly what she is, who she can trust, and why she cares for two very different boys so much. When Dani, Gabriel, and Russ have to work together in order to get to the bottom of what is going on, things really get interesting to say the least. Nothing is as it seems, everyone is a suspect, the worst evil imaginable is about the be let loose upon the earth, and if that isn't enough, she is going to have to choose between the two boys who mean more to her than anything.

I enjoyed Chameleon. It is a paranormal story that takes place in a contemporary setting. There are all kinds of supernatural beings, warlocks, witches, werewolves, vampires, fae, necromancers, seers, and the like, and Dani is destined to be connected to them all. I liked Dani's character. She is snarky, brave, very smart-mouthed and headstrong, and she doesn't take crap from anyone, something that gets her into a lot of trouble. Russ is the super hot "bad boy" type. He is actually very much like Dani, where as Gabriel is quiet, honest, mysterious, devastatingly handsome, and he has tattoos, which ups his hottness factor. There is a love triangle going on, and I actually liked both boys a lot, though I think I am glad she chose the one she did. The plot was interesting and fast paced, and though the story is told from Dani's point of view, I felt like I really got to know all of the characters. There were quite a few secondary characters that played an important role in the story, and my favorite was Duncan, a vampire, and I hope to see a lot more of him in the next installment. Kelly Oram did a good job keeping you guessing as to who the bad guy was in the story, and just when I thought I had it figured out, there would be a twist in the story and things were turned around in another direction. The title of the book fits the story perfectly, but I can't tell you why without spoiling it. The romance is hot and well done. I am usually not a huge fan of love triangles, but I didn't mind this one. I really don't care for huge cliffhangers , and I thought this story ended well, leaving you satisfied, while looking forward to the next book in the series. Chameleon is the first book by Kelly Oram that I have read and I really enjoyed it, and I am definitely looking forward to the next book in the series. ( )

I love Kelly Oram's writing style!!!

She jumps into this urban fantasy with the same feel of wild abandonment I love in V is for Virgin. She uses exclamation points!!!! :-D The characters are vibrant, the story is so fast-paced… I couldn’t put it down.

The trouble with the love triangle is not so much… the love triangle but every motivation behind it. Dani doesn’t know who is telling the truth and it gets so tangled up that not every trusted person can be who they say they are. The pressure mounts… and the persona under fire is the father-figure. Whose father figure is lying?

Oram puts the squeeze on ‘til I can barely stand the tension. There are peeks in the future that actually make bigger messes of things, rather than clear them up. Which, frankly, felt like fantastic writing that made me really squirm. I was ready to shake the truth right out of anyone I could get my hands on.

Everything clears up, the tangle of loose ends is explained, but not remotely close to how I’d imagined it would. Also, something I really enjoyed. The trouble comes from choosing a side too early… in this book, no one is above selfish motives.

Oh… and the fantastical world? I squirmed when the spiritual world as I imagine it came to life. *shudder*

I really love Dani. She’s smart. She thinks fast. She’s not afraid to dive into things headfirst. She has spunky attitude, too. LOTS of attitude. I swallowed her character whole and I’m still irritated with manipulative authorities. Grrrr She grows and changes delightfully, with speed, motivation and youthful energy.

Russ is one of my all-time favorite personalities EVER in fiction. He is so fun, so full of life, so real, & so full of attitude. The spats between him and Dani were wonderful. These two are too alike for any peace. They honestly reminded me of Jo March and Laurie… only this time, Dani really likes Russ and doesn’t see their fighting as a reason to not hook up. Yesss!!

The Seer. How interesting that he isn’t named in the book summary. Lol. His story barely gets started in this book. He is nice. He is sweet. His is very mysterious. We meet him from Dani’s perspective which is just plain WARPED by the time she gets to know him, so I have all kinds of questions, still. This guy has yet to prove himself to me but I caught the hint that we’re nowhere near done with him. My fear is that he is pure sugar and unhealthy.

There are two father figures and neither is above reproach. Both have ulterior motives, both manipulate Dani abominably. They really draw the battle lines. Neither can be entirely right. My complaint about this book would be right here… one of them seems to change too drastically and the other rang hollow to me. I don’t respect an adult that can tell a youth they don’t like them to their face. There’s something about being an adult, especially a respected adult, that recognizes good and bad all bundled in one character. To say “I don’t like you” is petty coming from a anyone and reduced my respect for one father figure and the entire system because they put him in authority.

My rating: Dani & Russ 5’s for me! The Seer was a 4 in hopes of more to come. The world building is 4.5. The fathers were 3’s – I dock them a lot of points because they were so essential to the story. I really love Kelly Oram’s writing style. I look forward to reading everything written by her! Another 5. Altogether, a resounding 4.

Cover Love: I do love this cover. I like the girl looking over her shoulder. I'm not sure what the ball of fire is, but I like it. I LOVE the title. Perfect. ( )
