Happily ever after is easier said than done... Sarah Matamoros can't complain. After immigrating from Mexico when she was nine years old, she's content with the life she's made for herself in sunny San Diego. She works hard at her mother's housecleaning service by day and spends the evenings with her quirky eight-year-old daughter, Grace. From a very young age, Emory Owen had several concepts drilled into her head. Success is everything. Be the best. Fight your way to the top. Expectations were high in the Owen household and the world was watching. Born into a high society family, Emory never wanted for anything...at least anything money could buy. When she meets Sarah, hired to sort her mother's home, her sterile life suddenly sparks into color. But when the emotional logistics of combining two very different worlds proves to be too much, a terrifying turn of events spurs the question: If love exists, can it really find a way?… (más)

I very much liked this book. The author grabbed me right away and the characters held me throughout. This is, in my opinion, a better book than Waiting in the Wings, which I also enjoyed, and I can't wait to see what she does with the next one.

Melissa Brayden is easily amongst our top five favourite lesfic authors. Her books are always well-paced, chemistry between MCs is crackling and romance is tingly. Her MCs are sweet and their friends and families usually fun. Sometimes the angst is forced, but if there has to be a formula to be followed, this is inevitable. Sadly, this book falls a little short of the usual.

This was such a quick and awesome read that in some ways the plot intricacies and technical stuff just went whizzing by. It just seemed like a favorite tale/novel that I'd already read over and over. It was awesome!

It was about three people. Sarah, her eight year old daughter Grace, and Emory. Sarah's a house cleaner/organizer who's also the daughter (and it seems like heir apparent) of the owner of the cleaning service, her Mom. And Emory is the owner of a private newswire service and from a very rich family. Then there's Grace, she's eight, and has the heart block medical problem from the title. She's also full of tons of energy and her character holds the entire novel together.

They meet when Sarah is hired to clean out Emory's Mom's house so it can be sold, and from there it's a pretty classic lesbian romance story.

I loved the characters, even the secondary ones, well, what we got to see of them. Yolanda, Sarah's Mom was cool, and the friends of Emory and Sarah, Lucy and Carmen. They were awesome as well. Grace was an amazing character and the scenes between she and Emory were perfect (so were those between Grace and Sarah, but not as good as with Emory). and then there was Walter the Dog. He was great and cracked me up more than once.

It was a great story and novel, and lots of fun to read. ( )

This is my sixth book by this author.

I liked most of the people involved, and the 'pivot points' (points of conflict) were handled well. Most importantly I liked both of the main characters, the little girl, and the dog too. Except for one specific moment, though, I felt kind of distant from everything that was occurring. Everything was a little too predictable. And quaint. And sweet. And the formula was again followed. I'm not going to mention what the formula is exactly, since doing so is, in a way, spoiler-y.

Well. Didn't have much to say about this one. It was there. I read it. Well, no, one last thing - every time when something did begin to annoy me, something would pop up to block the annoyance. Like - I spent a little too much time wondering about the woman from Mexico whose name was Sarah. Then learned she had 'whitened' her name to fit in.

Okay, I'm going to admit it: even though I read a lot (and I do mean a lot) of f/f fiction, it's very rare for a book to pull me completely into the story. Sometimes I don't click with the characters; sometimes the sex scenes aren't that good; sometimes something just doesn't feel right and I can't look past it.

But none of that was the case for this book. I found it very difficult to put this book down for any length of time until I was finished with it, and then I kind of wanted to reread a few of the chapters.

I enjoyed both Sarah and Emory. Their dialogue felt, for the overwhelming majority of their interactions, real - flirty at times, serious in others, but altogether like this could be really happening somewhere. And as I am a sucker for emotionally damaged characters, I was definitely digging Emory. ;)

I will definitely be reading more from this author in the future. ( )
