Developed by Revels founder John Langstaff, and his artistic staff, Celebrate the Winter and Celebrate the Spring are simple "how-to" books for teachers and community leaders interested in presenting multicultural holiday and seasonal celebrations in their school and communities. Books include traditional folk songs and dances from Ireland, Scotland, England and Wales, as well as from France, Latin America, Sweden, Israel and America (African American spirituals and gospel, Native American and Shaker traditions). They contain numerous examples of traditional and ritual songs, plays, street cries, singing games and poetry, with expert advice on costumes and props. Sample Programs included in each book, with performance suggestions and easy-to-follow dance instructions. Celebrate the Spring includes descriptions of ritual figures such as "The Padstow 'Obby 'Oss," "Jack in the Green," "The Maypole", and how to make them.
