This book offers an impressive collection of individual stories of Jewish resistance across Nazi- occupied Europe, and a glimpse at the Holocaust through the eyes of those who fought back. Author’s Note, Timeline, Bibliography. Beyond Courage talks about how Germany is now overruled by the N.A.Z.I political party after the whole Germany economy hit rock bottom and made Germany go into a great depression and Hitler didn't like that, to see his country riot and go down in flames so he decided to make a party to make sure that there country wouldn't fail after the WW1 so Hitler takes over the Gemany pollotics and decides to invaid Poland. Hitler went on to make consitration camps and throw all the Jews, gyps, any body that wasn't white, homosexuals. Hitler was the second faschits dictator. The book talks about how many consintration camps and how they went through everyday. It also talks about how he killed him self and put a toxic pill in his mouth so they couldn't bring him back and so did his wife but before that Hitler got marrie This book is mighty fascinating and sparks a interesting and it strikes on my curiosity about how would any of this go down if Hitler won the war or even never was born. RGG: Historical vignettes covering various instances of Jewish resistance. As a companion to Number the Stars, the section Saving the Future about efforts to evacuate or secret children out of German-occupied territories and the story at the end of the Violinist are probably most pertinent. Reading Level: 12-YA. Far outside my usual reading, a friend lent me this book. It was not the easiest read in the world, a reminder of the horrible things mankind does to one another, complete with heart-breaking pictures. Primarily it made me angry that there are so many apologists and deniers these days who try to pretend history is pretty and no horrible things really happened, that it is all some sort of liberal plot. Sigh. Such villainy, with even the victims finding it hard to believe the horrors they were about to face. Still, the little acts of courage must give us hope. Rappaport used period photographs, maps, drawings, memoirs, diaries, survivor interviews, newspapers and other archival records to document this well researched and informative guide.
