Definitive Star Wars story in the Expanded Universe. I'm one of those who adored the original trilogy and played all the LucasArts games, so naturally Heir to the Empire holds a special meaning for me. I read the trilogy originally in the 90s as a Finnish translation, which I remember I didn't like that much. Now, after reading this again in English and seeing what Disney has done to Star Wars, I appreciate the Thrawn Trilogy much more.

By all means this cannot be considered "literature", but I don't think it's especially badly written. The language is very simple and easy to read. The plot is quite simple too, but there is this certain nostalgic atmosphere which I like. ( )

this is a classic and there really isn't much to say that hasn't already been said. I only docked one star because Thrawn isn't actually smart, at least not consistently. He's alternately smart and stupid as the plot demands and his strategies really don't make sense if you actually think about them. ( )
