Classic Christmas poem, one of my favorite childhood memories of Christmas. This has beuatiful illustrations as well. My childhood memory was a fairly large size paper book. Wish I still had it. It would be priceless. It was a 1958 edition, illustrated by Florence Winship. ( )

What better Christmas tradition could you have than to sit down with your children, have hot chocolate, and read The Night Before Christmas? Most of us are quite familiar with the story, but reading it is magical! It's a journey back to childhood, and trip through our memories and how wonderful the holidays were while growing up. And, what better Christmas gift could you imagine? This is a masterful description of a classic Christmas, with all the holiday trimmings. ( )

I am a huge Christmas fan so I couldn't help reading this amazing adaptation of the classic story. The artwork throughout is filled with soft, muted colors and very detailed work that fills the whole page. The poems on each page were the only area not covered with illustrations. Each one also describes the scene using rhymes, and with the jolly face of santa, you feel like its christmas when read it! I think this is a great story book for an child during the Christmas season at home or at school. It teaches rhymes and memorization as this is a very common poem that they can help read with you.

This is a classic book that is associated with sentimentality around the holidays. Many families read it on the night before christmas as a tradition. This in itself makes it a book worth reading, because the memories that go along with it are often some of the best memories a person can have. However, another reason this book is worth reading is because it is a good book. The story is cute and imaginative, but the rhymes are what really make it a fantastic book. The rhythm of the rhymes flow so well that it is hard not to enjoy reading it. For example, there is something enjoyable about reading “Now, Dasher! Now Dancer! Now Prancer and Vixen! On Comet, On Cupid, on Donder and Blitzen!” The fantastic rhymes coupled with the sentimentality of the book make it one that won’t be forgotten. The main idea of this book is to appreciate the joy and wonder that comes with the holiday season. ( )

Classic, just a classic. All children should know this story like the back of their hands. Personally, this is my favorite Christmas book. I would read my students this book the day before we go on Christmas break just to get them excited and in the spirit. I would probably bring them hot chocolate as well just to make it extra special. Engelbreit... has legions of devoted adult fans who will adore sharing this oversized, traditional treatment of the beloved Christmas poem. The illustrations incorporate the artist’s signature icons.... The entire story is told in double-page spreads with the text blocks set off in ivory rectangles, and each spread is full of toys and treats and tiny details of the Christmas season in a busy household. ... Engelbreit fans will find this a delectable holiday treat.

K-Gr 2 - The full text of the familiar poem is illustrated in Engelbreit's crisply decorated style. A large trim size allows each highly embellished spread to hold a plethora of detail. ...

Engelbreit's... interpretation of Moore's poem features a cast of rambunctious elves who accompany an exceptionally jolly St. Nick as he leaves assorted old-fashioned candies and toys inside a home decorated in a spectrum of Engelbreit's trademark patterns and prints. Kids—and adult fans of the artist—will enjoy poring over the copious details.

There is a controversy as to whether TNBC was really written by Clement Moore or Henry Livingston. It is most conveniently summed up with much strong evidence in this book: https://www.librarything.com/work/1785...
