I was excited to see the relationship with Alex grow and intrigued by the struggles they had to go through as a couple. But more than that, it was amazing to see this journey from the hunted to the hunters! Lila really learning to know WHO she is and roll with that was fun to watch. And as a special bonus, getting to see a scene from Alex's POV was just what I was secretly hoping the author would do! I wouldn't mind reading more of that. ( ) What a crummy sequel. I wish I'd never read it in order to keep the favorable memory of [b:Hunting Lila|10188580|Hunting Lila (Lila, #1)|Sarah Alderson|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1327127900s/10188580.jpg|15087473] alive. Losing (my will to live) Lila is the complete opposite of the debut: slow, angst-ridden, typical YA drivel revolving around misunderstandings between love interests. Unfortunately the book was so focused on this that it didn't have enough page-time devoted to its plot so we never get to meet Lila's mother, the person they were so intent on rescuing, along with Jack, Lila's brother. We also don't get to witness Jack finding out an important truth, or the villain of the piece get his comeuppence as he escapes to live, breathe and plot another day. Talk about loose ends. Totally unsatisfying. Speaking of unsatisfying, sex shouldn't have been an issue and yet Alex spouts, "I'm just trying to protect your honour." Lame excuse, buddy. They'd known each other for years, she's almost 18, there's a time when they're in one of the most beautiful places on earth and either of them could die at any minute. It was legal in Mexico, the perfect moment was there for the taking and Alex blew it. Why mention sex at all if you're going to give Alex a lame excuse to abstain? Lila's obsession with Alex's resolve got old real fast. It's not often I think sex between YA characters is a good idea (mostly because they're usually incompatible strangers) but it was very appropriate and expected here. Alex wasn't a psycho stalker and Lila wasn't a girl about to be taken advantage of. It was all remarkably healthy. I wish there'd been more attention on other characters like Amber, Demos and Thomas, even Lila's dad. More character history or perhaps their POVs would've been most welcome. Thankfully Lila is a duology so I don't need to agonise about whether to read the next one. Well, Losing Lila offered what Hunting Lila lacked. This fast-paced sequel is definitely not experiencing the second-book-syndrome or whatever is it called. :3 The characters became more admirable, the fights somehow more intense and believable. The plot: What to expect? Seriously cute scenes. Hilarious and lovely characters. Predictable betrayal. Shocking twists and revelations. Action-packed adventure. The characters: Lila. She became slightly less annoying to me but still... Gaaaah Lila. Worry about your virginity after you get out of trouble! I find her clumsiness rather funny though. Okay.. she is amusing. Her tricks, her lies to get off trouble! "I'm madly in love with Alex and while you've been sleeping he kidnapped me and took me to Mexico and we went skinny-dipping. And let me tell you- it was A. LOT. OF. FUN. I'm sure you want to kick his ass, but oh, what a shame, you're in coma." Alex. Eeeeep. Do you know the feeling when you read a book and there's this guy who doesn't even try but still managed to make you all gushy gushy? Well, that is Alex right there. And he was very honorable. *wink* Jack. I liked this overprotective brother thing going on. It's too adorable. But probably I won't be that glad if I'm in Lila's place. And the secrets about him... woah. "Jack looks like he’s about to go all Incredible Hulk and burst out of his clothes before rampaging through the bar. He jumps off the stool. ‘If any boy ever lays a finger on my sister, I’m going to kill him,’ he says. Suki. You go girl! I really liked her quirky and fun personality. She and Nate are quite a force when they're together. Haha. The ending: Uhhh. What is that? Is there another book after this? It feels kind of open-ended to me. So that is why I'm giving this 4 stars. Anyway, this was definitely entertaining. Certainly better than the first one but still not without flaws. Recommended with reservations.
