I started this book after dinner one evening and managed to finish it in the matter of just a couple of hours. It was such a quick and cute read! The dialogue contained a generous amount of wit and snark. As a fan of both, it heightened my enjoyment of Just Your Average Princess even more. I really enjoyed Kristina Springer’s style of writing as well as the cast of characters she created in Just Your Average Princess. Jamie’s country girl innocence was a nice change of pace from other main characters I’ve encountered recently. It also created quite a few funny (at times just straight up awkward) moments between her and her worldly cousin, Milan. The meat of the story revolved around why Milan was sent to Average, Illinois to work at Jamie’s dad’s pumpkin patch, and why Milan seemed hell-bent on making Jamie feel beneath her. I was quick to pick up on Milan’s jealousy of Jamie’s normal life even though Just Your Average Princess's MC was oblivious. As for the reason Milan is sent to small town USA. You’ll have to read to find out. Just Your Average Princess is a great book to pick up this time of year. With the pumpkin patch in fall setting it will definitely help get readers in the mood for autumn festivities. Full review can also be found at http://sarahliveslovesreads.blogspot.com/ I have been on a major contemporary binge lately and this one definitely fit the bill. It was a cute, quick read. The story is pretty simple, small town girl feuding with her big city cousin, who just happens to be staying with her family for a while. Jamie is a farm girl and darn proud of it. Her family own's the pumpkin patch in her town of Average, Illinois and she's worked or played there her entire life. Her best friend Sara runs the caramel apple stand and her long time crush Danny is one of their only full timers. Her life is pretty good and when she wins Pumpkin Princess it will be perfect. Except nothing actually ever works out like you plan it. Jamie's cousin Milan comes to town and slowly starts taking over everything that's important to her, which might even include Danny. Milan is definitely a stuck up, spoiled, bratty, rich girl from L.A. and doesn't to have any problems letting the world know it. She's cruel to Jamie from the start, but puts on the sweetest facade for the townspeople and Jamie's parents. This is definitely your typical YA contemporary read, but that's not a bad thing. I liked that it was set on a pumpkin patch and all of the pumpkin themed things that went with that. The various different people that surrounded Jamie on the patch were fun to get to know, as well. I loved her best friend Sara. Her creative caramel apple recipes had me drooling. And after reading all I want is a pumpkin spice latte. I thought her crush, Danny, seemed like a genuinely nice, good guy. We don't get too deep into his character, but he's always at the right place to help or stick up for someone. In the end I felt there should have been a little more confrontation between Jamie and Milan, before things started to get better, but since it was such a quick read it got rushed along a little. It didn't ruin the story, though, and overall I really enjoyed myself. Imagine a Disney movie. You know, the cutesy ones with a wonderful message. (Or Mean Girls. But that's because I'm watching it now). Now imagine that movie in book version. In your hands is Just Your Average Princess. All the characters were somewhat cliche, but adorable and easy to relate to all around. In the end, they were all pretty awesome. The story is quick and the writing keeps things fast paced and entertaining. I was able to read this in one day. It was cute and entertaining and different from the average YA book. This is light and fluffy with a wonderful message hiding underneath. I highly, HIGHLY recommend it. sin reseñas | añadir una reseña

Okay, I'm glad that the book ended the way it did. But the author lives just outside of Chicago. How much does she really know about Central IL culture? People call anything south of I-90 "Southern Illinois" (while those of us from Central IL know it's all of the 2-1-7, baby!). Okay, so, yeah, she gets it right about cruising downtown/the square, but everybody gossips just as much as anywhere else, and follow celebrities like crazy as well. ( )
