This was a fun and bubbly read about Carrie discovering NYC.

I really loved that this was set in the 80s. Reading this was different than reading about other stories about girls trying to make it in the city because it lacked the technology that so often colours it all. Getting the little cultural tidbits was just so much fun, from the very beginning.

Seeing Carrie struggle through her writing process felt very real, and at the same time her confidence was highly entertaining to see. She knows that she can be a brilliant writer and isn't afraid to brag about it, but she has several pegs knocked down over the course of the book.

I loved the relationship she gets involved in. Or rather, I hated it, but I loved hating it and seeing how it developed and how Carrie and her friends viewed it was so much fun to read.

This could definitely be classified as new adult, but lacks the tropes NA is usually guilty of, and I highly recommend it for all older fans of YA.

I loved this book! Light, breezy, easy read for a weekend of escape.

You do not have to be a fan of "Sex and the City" to enjoy this book. You just have to like a good story. ( )

Oh, to be young and free in New York City for the summer! We all know that Carrie Bradshaw came to New York as a late teenager/early 20-something, and never looked back, but Bushnell finally gives us her origin story with this novel. Carrie has managed to escape her small town life for a summer in New York by winning a place in the New School’s writing program, a move that she hopes will convince her father to let her forgo her destiny of attending Brown University and launch her literary career. In typical Carrie fashion, she quickly falls in with a rather random group of people who she figures will either help her career or her love life - whichever comes first (haha) - and her story of shenanigans has begun. While this Carrie is pretty naive compared to the Bradshaw we see fall in love with Mr. Big, we can see her quick friendliness and street smarts win her allies and defend her from bad choices (though not all, of course). This Carrie retains the same fashionable whimsy and fun that made us all fall in love with her, and by the final pages (loaded with an offer to come write about love for a small NYC paper) we know she’s on her way to being the Carrie we all know and love. I wish there were more to this series! It's just a fun, easy read. Love the characters, it felt really weird seeing them as their younger selves since I watched the TV series before the show. Explores love, sex, feminism, writing, all the things I enjoy haha. Definitely recommend this as a good contemporary read with a happy ending. Flows perfectly into the TV series if you're looking for a kind of prequel to see how the girls got to where they are. ( )

Again, I'll start by saying that I am an admitted Sex and the City virgin and have never watched a single episode, so what may be old news for some, was new for me!

Book two of this series was MUCH more enjoyable than the first. I felt like I was reading about 'grown-ups' rather than kids and that was much nicer... appealing to my adult self.

Carrie Bradshaw's Sex and the City character came to life in this book. I could actually see Sarah Jessica Parker playing her and started to realize why I haven't fallen head over heels in love with the show. She is an annoying person. Her constant need for reassurance, her over-inflated ego, and her horrible sense of style all irritated me throughout this book. Even though my love for Carrie didn't come full-bloom, I really did enjoy the story.

One of the parts of the story that I enjoyed, while finding extremely unbelievable, was Carrie's rise-to-fame. How awesome would it be to venture to the 'Big City' and become an instant 'in' at every big industry party; Falling in love with a play-write and having him return your affections; Meeting a famous literary agent who actually likes your work. If I had known that it would be THAT easy, I would have made the trip to the city a LOOOOOONG time ago.

Character development is definitely a strong suit for Candace Bushnell. It was fun to follow the beginnings of Samantha Jones and Miranda Hobbes... and eventually, I imagine Charlotte. Through her words, a 'posse' is born.

Overall, I enjoyed reading the book. I would definitely read the follow up story, but am still undecided on whether I will ever really watch the series. Who knows, there may be a rainy day when I don't have a book on hand - ya, right - and I might JUST flip on an episode... MIGHT!
