Cassie has the power to see when people are going to die. She struggles to figure out what to do with this power and decides to research death and religion to try to get more insight. There is a lot going on in this book, much of which I may have understood more clearly by reading book one. I like Cassie, she was compassionate, intelligent, curious, and held strongly to her convictions. As for the plot, by the time I got to the truth of the source of Cassie's power and her final decisions, it didn't make enough sense and I lost some interest. ( )

THE VISION, by Jen Nadol, is the highly anticipated sequel to The Mark. In the first book we discover that Cassie has the ability to see a 'mark' on people on their last day alive. We learned that if she tells the person and they do something to prevent their death, the mark will pass to another person nearby. This book explores the background of her gift and begs the question, would you sacrifice someone to save another?

I absolutely loved The Mark, but sadly I was quite disappointed with The Vision. I felt Nadol created such a great start to the series, but this one didn't hold up. There were times the story was disjointed and some of the plot lines seemed a bit random. Cassie consistently went back and forth about saving people versus letting them die and I felt she just went in circles the whole time without any real resolution.

I did, however, enjoy getting the background on Cassie and Zander and their respective gifts. Her discovery of how big of a role she truly has being a descendant of a Fate really brought me back to liking the series. I think Zander was a great 'devil's advocate' in forcing Cassie to make up her mind about her gift. Their connection was beyond physical and emotional and I really enjoyed understanding what his real motives were. He was definitely my favorite character in this book.

Even though my expectations weren't met, I am still glad I read it. The story isn't fast-paced, but I really enjoyed following Cassie's journey to learning about her past and understanding how it made her feel. But overall, I think fan's of the series should read this book. It definitely gave insight to the 'mark' and other's out there like Cassie. I am really looking forward to The Touch and where Nadol will take Cassie this time.
