Leo Demidov Trilogy #3 of 3 - This book was just way too political for my taste as far as “novels” go. If you are familiar with the wars and Russia trying to overtake Afghanistan back in the ‘80’s, you might find it more enjoyable. I know nothing about it. There was a lot of discussions going on and on about the political air of the times, and general descriptions and thoughts of the different characters, including Leo’s, but hardly any action.

The story was supposed to be about Leo Demidov finding his way to New York from Russia to find the true murderer of his wife. But, that didn’t start to happen until the very end of the book. Most of the time Leo was just stupid high on opium and barely getting through life, working for the Soviet Union in Afghanistan at a time when they were trying to overtake the country. Meanwhile, the author throws in filler stories with new characters that are suddenly introduced then killed off… ( )

Part three of a trilogy. At first I wonder why it was so long, But the book starts fast and never really lets up.
Fantastic story, as the book says
Three decades
Two murders
One act of revenge.
This was an excellent book. ( )

This trilogy was a lot of fun setting-wise (excellent sense of place) but, in the end, the plots seemed more to serve the setting than to exist on their own merit. Got a bit annoying after a while. Definitely recommend the first book, the following two not as much. ( )

Agent 6 is the third & final installment of the Leo Demidov trilogy. While Leo remains behind in Russia, his wife & two daughters have the opportunity to travel to the United States as part of a "Peace Tour". However, there is more going on under the surface, and events suddenly take a tragic turn, leaving Leo reeling in grief. Despite Leo's determined attempts to travel to the U.S. to find out the truth of what really happened, he is denied and eventually finds himself working in Soviet-occupied Afghanistan, living in a partial opium-haze in order to dull his memories.

The fact that I was able to read each book in this trilogy back-to-back made it flow a little more coherently for me. However, despite the hype of book #1, I never really was able to feel like I was "into" this series. I would agree that the first book was the best. All three have a rather dark, political conspiracy type theme, and I typically don't have anything against books of that type, but there was something about these that never really grabbed me. This third book in particular, had a promising beginning, and the ending, though rushed, wasn't too bad. But the middle, the portions in Afghanistan, just dragged on and on, and I flirted with giving up. I don't think this was a bad series, but I don't think it resonated much with me personally. Too dark, too depressing, too violent. ( )
