Found: Historical fiction (I think) Woman gives birth accused of witchcraft

I think I got this book from a school library, but a woman gives birth but doesn’t cry and the town sees a cat yowling as she gives birth so the town believes she is a witch that transferred her pain into the cat. That’s only one part of the story I think, I don’t remember any other parts

It's been a couple decades since I last read it, but I'm sure there was a similar scene in A Swiftly Tilting Planet by Madeleine L'Engle. It's also YA and likely to be in school libraries. It was the scene set in early US colonial times. Good luck.
